Food Research & Action Center Calls for WIC Funding, SNAP Benefit Adequacy as Rates of Hunger Rise

WASHINGTON, October 25, 2023 — FRAC is deeply troubled that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service (ERS) report released today reveals hunger in America soared in 2022 after falling the previous year due to COVID-19 pandemic relief efforts. The data underscore how the unwinding of critical pandemic interventions and rising costs have taken a toll on families, particularly households with children and households of color, and also mirror the significant rise in poverty in 2022, the root cause of hunger.

FRAC and More Than 600 National, State, and Local Organizations Urge Congress to Continue WIC Funding, Avert a Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, September 27, 2023 — The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) and over 600 national and state organizations signed a letter in a unified plea to Congress to immediately pass a Continuing Resolution that will avert a government shutdown and protect funding for federal nutrition programs, especially the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), to ensure the program can continue providing all who are eligible with the nutrition they need without interruption.
