URGENT ACTION ALERT: Historic Threat to SNAP – Keep the Pressure On (Updated – May 13, 2025)

Urgent action is needed ahead of this week’s House Agriculture Committee Markup to protect and strengthen SNAP—the nation’s most effective anti-hunger program.  The House budget plan calls for at least $230 billion in cuts to fund tax breaks for the wealthiest households and corporations while harming families, farmers, food retailers, and local governments.

Take Action Now: Tell Congress: Reject the House Agriculture Committee reconciliation bill, which will cause greater hunger and hardship for children, families, veterans, older adults, and others.

Urge Your House Representative to Cosponsor the MODERN WIC Act

Ask your Representative to join the growing list of cosponsors for the More Options to Develop and Enhance Remote Nutrition (MODERN) WIC Act (H.R. 1464). This bipartisan bill creates permanent options for remote enrollment, services, and benefits issuance for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Without Congressional action, these essential modernizations, which reduce barriers to WIC, will expire in September 2026.

Action Needed: Tell Congress to Oppose Any Cut to School Meals

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) has put out a list of proposals for budget reconciliation, which includes $12 billion in cuts to school breakfast and lunch. Use the FRAC Action Network to ask your members of Congress to protect school meals and oppose any cuts in reconciliation that would reduce funding and limit access to school meals.

Action Needed: Support Permanent SNAP Replacement Benefits and Card Security

SNAP is the nation’s first line of defense against hunger and helps over 40 million people put food on the table every day.  With so many transactions taking place daily with the outdated technology of a swipe card, households with the lowest incomes have become the biggest targets for criminals. To date, at least 195,000 households have had over $94.7 million in SNAP benefits stolen from them. Send an email to your Members of Congress to protect SNAP with a single click.
