Food Research & Action Center Applauds Senators Stabenow and Murkowski for Opposing Proposed Rule that Would Increase Hunger in America

WASHINGTON, March 28, 2019 — FRAC commends Sens. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for their bi-partisan leadership in urging the Trump Administration to withdraw a proposed rule that would take away food assistance from hundreds of thousands of struggling low-income people across the country at a time when they most need it. The senators are among a total of 47 senators who signed a letter to the Administration expressing their many concerns on how the proposed rule sidesteps Congress.

President’s FY 2020 Budget Recycles Terrible Ideas that will Deepen Hunger and Poverty in America

WASHINGTON, March 11, 2019 — The president’s harsh fiscal year (FY) 2020 budget calls for spending cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) of $220 billion over the next 10 years. Such astronomical cuts will not only increase hunger and poverty, but will worsen health outcomes, decrease the ability of children to do well in school, and lower productivity, all of which will extract a heavy toll on the American economy.
