WASHINGTON, May 7, 2019 — Too many pregnant women, new mothers, and their young children in the U.S. are missing out on the healthy nutrition they need, according to Making WIC Work Better: Strategies to Reach More Women and Children and Strengthen Benefits Use, a new report from FRAC. The report features recommendations to overcome the barriers that have led to a shocking downward trend in participation in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

WASHINGTON, April 29, 2019 — FRAC was deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana. Senator Lugar was a champion in public and behind the scenes for the federal nutrition programs as a member and Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. In recognition of his passionate and unwavering support of these programs, FRAC recognized Senator Lugar twice (in 1992 and 2003) with its Distinguished Service Award.

WASHINGTON, March 28, 2019 — FRAC commends Sens. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for their bi-partisan leadership in urging the Trump Administration to withdraw a proposed rule that would take away food assistance from hundreds of thousands of struggling low-income people across the country at a time when they most need it. The senators are among a total of 47 senators who signed a letter to the Administration expressing their many concerns on how the proposed rule sidesteps Congress.

WASHINGTON, March 21, 2019 — SNAP helps low-income seniors afford the food they need for their health and well-being, yet FRAC’s data tools find that just 42 percent of eligible seniors (60+) are using  SNAP on average each month — compared to 83 percent of all SNAP-eligible people that participate in SNAP.
