FRAC Urges Senate to Pass Bi-Partisan Legislation to Keep Children Fed as the Nation Recovers from the Pandemic

The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) commends Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) for introducing a bill, the Support Kids Not Red Tape Act, that will enable children to maintain continued access to child nutrition programs as families, schools, afterschool and summer programs, and child care providers recover from and respond to the economic, health, and educational fallout from the pandemic.

The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of U.S. Congressman Don Young (R-AK). For decades, Rep. Young was a champion of federal nutrition programs. As a former teacher, he understood the struggles that some families face in keeping food on the table.  

FRAC Deeply Disappointed Child Nutrition Isn’t Prioritized in Omnibus Bill, Calls on Congress to Give USDA Waiver Authority in Final Bill

WASHINGTON, March 9, 2022  — The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) is deeply disappointed that the extension of the child nutrition waivers was not included in the Omnibus spending bill posted today by the Senate Appropriations Committee. If the waiver extension is not included in the final bill, the waivers will end on June 30, 2022, causing millions of children to face a hunger cliff when they lose access to summer and school meals.
