As our nation marks its 250th birthday, we have an opportunity not just to celebrate our history, but to shape what comes next. The American Dream has always been about possibility — the belief that every child should have the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. That promise starts with something basic: access to nutritious food.

No child can reach their full potential while hungry. And yet, more than 14 million children live in households that struggle to put food on the table.

It doesn’t need to be this way. Solutions exist to put an end to childhood hunger once and for all.

Every day, proven federal child nutrition programs ensure millions of children get the fuel they need to learn, grow, and thrive. School meals reduce food insecurity and support health and academic success. Child care, summer and afterschool meals, paired with enrichment, nourish both body and mind. Summer EBT helps families bridge the gap when school is out and school meals aren’t available. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) supports moms and ensures our nation’s youngest get a healthy start in life. And, the largest anti-hunger program, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps families afford to keep cupboards full with the nutrition they need.

Imagine how many more dreams could be made possible if these programs reached every child who could benefit from them.

At this milestone moment, it’s time to match our ideals with action. Let’s honor our country’s founding promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, by declaring that our policymakers, and all of us, commit to a future that ensures hunger does not stand between any child and the American Dream. This means advancing policies that expand the reach of child nutrition programs and put the well-being of children as a national priority.

Because when children are well-nourished, they aren’t just healthier — they are better able to reach their full potential. And that’s how we create a stronger, more prosperous future for everyone.

This is why FRAC is proud to be joining the Albertsons Companies Foundation’s Nourish the American Dream campaign as part of our efforts to build a nation free from hunger.

From July 1 through July 7,  your donation to FRAC will be matched by the foundation and will support our efforts to ensure every child has a full plate to fuel their dreams.
