Statement attributable to Luis Guardia, President, Food Research & Action Center (FRAC)
WASHINGTON, October 26, 2021 — The Food Research & Action Center strongly supports the legislation introduced today by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) to convene a White House conference on hunger, nutrition, and health. It is long overdue.
The first, and so far the only, White House conference on hunger held 52 years ago was transformational in identifying effective solutions for addressing hunger, including the proven federal nutrition programs.
Now is the time to bring advocates, experts, lawmakers, and people with lived experiences to the nation’s largest table to determine how we can build upon the critical gains and lessons learned over the last five decades to further strengthen our nutrition safety net and eradicate poverty-related hunger in America.
