WASHINGTON, October 26, 2021 — Nearly 1.5 million low-income children benefited from suppers through the Afterschool Nutrition Programs on an average day in October 2020, according to a new report released today by the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC).
FRAC’s Afterschool Suppers: A Snapshot of Participation report finds schools and community sponsors were able to slightly increase access to afterschool suppers despite ongoing pandemic-related closures – reaching an additional 37,317 students with afterschool suppers compared to October 2019.
WASHINGTON, October 6, 2021 — The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) today launched a Social Impact and Equity Fund to identify, recognize, and financially support innovative strategies among organizations working to leverage federal nutrition programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and school meals to fight hunger and promote equity. Funded in part by PepsiCo, this new initiative will award four grants of $25,000 each to local, state, or regional tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations doing exceptional work fighting hunger and injustice, centering equity throughout their operations, policy, and advocacy efforts, and working in collaboration with people with lived expertise.
WASHINGTON, September 17, 2021 — The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) is delighted to announce Darin Allen has been named Director of Development at the leading national nonprofit organization working to eradicate poverty-related hunger and undernutrition in the United States.
Allen will oversee FRAC’s fundraising initiatives, including its Annual Benefit Dinner, foundation and corporate relations, and major gifts program.
WASHINGTON, September 15, 2021 — Millions of people in America were lifted out of poverty in 2020 due to investments in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), school meals and child nutrition programs, unemployment insurance benefits and stimulus payments to support essential economic recovery, according to the latest release of income, poverty, and health insurance data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
