WASHINGTON, September 17, 2021 — The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) is delighted to announce Darin Allen has been named Director of Development at the leading national nonprofit organization working to eradicate poverty-related hunger and undernutrition in the United States.

Allen will oversee FRAC’s fundraising initiatives, including its Annual Benefit Dinner, foundation and corporate relations, and major gifts program.

“We are delighted to have Darin on board,” said Luis Guardia, president of FRAC. “His positive energy and passion for connecting organizations to people and communities in need of resources are exactly what we’ve been looking for. Darin understands our mission and will bring years of public affairs and fundraising expertise to support our efforts to end poverty-related hunger.”

Allen brings a wealth of knowledge from the nonprofit sector. Prior to joining FRAC, Allen served as director of development and external affairs for the Washington, D.C., nonprofit Bright Beginnings, where he raised more than $10 million to support children and families experiencing housing instability and intergenerational poverty in the nation’s capital.

Before Bright Beginnings, Allen served on the executive team of the District of Columbia’s first community college, the Community College of the District of Columbia (CCDC). At CCDC, he co-authored workforce development and technical skills training curricula for adult learners.

“I am thrilled to join the FRAC team,” said Allen. “I’ve been blessed to spend much of my career in public service. It’s a passion that I inherited from my parents. They instilled in their children the perspective that a candle loses nothing by lighting another flame and to share your light.”

Allen is a proud native of Alabama, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Alabama. He holds a certification in Strategic Business Management from Harvard University Extension School and currently resides in D.C. with his partner.
