Statement attributed to Luis Guardia, president, Food Research & Action Center (FRAC)
WASHINGTON, August 4, 2022 — FRAC is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN).
As Co-Chair of the House Hunger Caucus, working alongside Rep. James P. McGovern (D-MA), Representative Walorski modeled effective and productive bipartisan dialogue and collaboration to fight hunger in the United States.
In 2016, Representative Walorski was honored by the Congressional Hunger Center for her determination to make ending hunger and poverty a focal point of U.S. policy at home, and globally.
More recently, she co-sponsored bipartisan legislation with Rep. McGovern and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN) to convene a White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health this fall. The last conference of its kind, held more than 50 years ago, sparked major improvements and expansions to the federal nutrition programs, paving the way to significant reductions in food insecurity for millions of individuals and families.
FRAC remembers Representative Walorski for her ability to work across the aisle and for her collaboration with anti-hunger advocates.
We extend our deepest sympathy to her family and to the other families who also tragically lost loved ones.
