WASHINGTON, July 9, 2024 — The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) today announced it has named a new interim president, Crystal FitzSimons, who has led FRAC’s child nutrition work for 16 years and serves as FRAC’s director of Child Nutrition Programs and Policy.

The board also has appointed Lynette Fraga, a seasoned nonprofit executive and longtime champion for children and families, to serve as senior advisor during this period. This occurred after Kelly Horton, former interim president, stepped down from the role effective July 1, 2024.

“On behalf of the entire board of directors, I am so pleased to share that Crystal will serve in this capacity as FRAC works to operationalize a vision for its future and the contributions that it will undoubtedly continue to make toward addressing hunger and poverty in our country,” said Mayra E. Alvarez, chair of the FRAC Board of Directors. “The organization, with its incredible staff, led by Crystal and supported by Lynette, will be in a strong position to continue building a nation free from hunger.”

The FRAC Board of Directors has launched a Search Committee to begin charting the process for identifying its new permanent president. In service of this process, FRAC will retain Boardwalk Consulting to move forward with the plan for this important national search.

FRAC continues to improve the nutrition, health, and well-being of people struggling against poverty-related hunger in the United States through advocacy, partnerships, and by advancing bold and equitable policy solutions. Through the efforts of the entire organization’s staff, FRAC will help ensure that all individuals, regardless of economic status, have access to the nutrition they need to thrive.
