This National Day of Racial Healing, we acknowledge the historic and current harms caused by racism, and the critical role conversations and relationships play in efforts to create a more fair and equitable society.
For far too long, this nation’s history of racism has created vicious cycles of poverty and hunger. Black, Latino, and Native American households have experienced unacceptable rates of food insecurity. This reflects how these traditionally and continuously marginalized communities continue to be left behind by inadequate wages, lack of affordable housing and health care, and other root causes of hunger.
If we are to better address these injustices, anti-hunger advocates must make it a top priority to listen, learn, and grow individually and as organizations so that we can unravel and address deeply held racial biases that impact the people whom we serve.
Transformative action cannot happen without meaningful conversation. That is why FRAC is centering its work, both internally and externally, to make space for frequent conversations on racial healing, racial equity, and justice.
Racial healing can facilitate trust and build authentic relationships that bridge divides created by real and perceived differences, according to the National Day of Racial Healing campaign.
It begins with each and every one of us. Together, we can build a just and equitable country.
Today, tune in for the National Day of Racial Healing campaign’s virtual event for a meaningful conversation on racial equity, truth, and transformation. The recording will be available after the event.
Check out these resources from the campaign to learn how you can lead team wide conversations and share resources on how we can remove barriers to health equity.
