FRAC and the Center on Budget and Policies Priorities’ new state fact sheets detail the positive impact the Build Back Better Act would have on child nutrition in every state. The $10 billion investment would allow more schools to offer free breakfast and lunch to all of their students through the Community Eligibility Provision and would create a nationwide Summer EBT program to help close the summer hunger gap.
The state fact sheets estimate the impact of the child nutrition provisions in the Build Back Better Act for each state, including:
- the number of schools that would be eligible to participate in community eligibility;
- the number of students attending those schools who would then have access to school breakfast and lunch at no charge;
- the percentage of meals that would be reimbursed at the highest rate (the free rate) if the state implements the statewide community eligibility option; and
- the number of children that would be eligible for Summer EBT benefits.
Hungry children cannot wait. FRAC urges the Senate to enact the Build Back Better Act and to reject any effort to weaken the child nutrition provisions which are needed to overcome the educational, health, and economic impacts of the pandemic. Join FRAC in urging Senators to fight hunger by passing Build Back Better (H.R. 5376) using the FRAC Action Network.
