Each day, the School Breakfast Program provides millions of low-income children a healthy morning meal. In the 2014–2015 school year, however, just over half of low-income children who participated in the National School Lunch Program also participated in the School Breakfast Program. This map utilizes state and federal participation, funding, and legislative data collected for our annual School Breakfast Scorecard to demonstrate the status of breakfast participation and the opportunity for growth in each state.
How to use the map:
- Click the links below to view the following data on the map.
- Click the School District Participation and Grant Funding link to view and hide school district markers.
- Click on each state to zoom and download a PDF with more detailed information about each state.
- Low-Income Student Participation — the ratio of free and reduced-price (FRP) certified children participating in school breakfast for every 100 participating in school lunch.
- Change in Low-Income Student Participation Ratio over 5 years
- School Participation — the percentage of schools offering the National School Lunch Program that also offer the School Breakfast Program.
- Additional Federal Funding — FRAC sets a goal for each state to reach 70 low-income children with school breakfast for every 100 participating in school lunch, and calculates the additional federal funding states would receive if achieved.
- School District Participation and Grant Funding [ON] — view school districts that have received grant funding of $5,000 or more to expand their breakfast program and participation data for select large school districts.
