What you need to know:

  • On April 6, Representatives James P. McGovern (D-MA), Marcia Fudge (D-OH), Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) led a letter signed by 136 of their colleagues urging House and Senate leaders to incorporate provisions in upcoming COVID-19 stimulus packages that will: (1) boost the maximum SNAP benefit by 15 percent; (2) increase the monthly minimum SNAP benefit from $16 to $30; and (3) place a hold on harmful rules proposed by the Executive Branch that weaken SNAP eligibility and benefits.
  • On March 27, the President signed into law the third COVID-19 relief bill – H.R. 784, the Coronavirus Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act, originally S.3548).   • The second COVID-19 legislative package, H.R. 6201 – Families First Coronavirus Response Act, was signed into law on March 18. Read FRAC’s statement and summary of the bill.
  • A federal judge issued an injunction on March 13 blocking the Trump administration from implementing a rule change that would force nearly 700,000 Americans off of SNAP. The rule change was set to take effect April 1.
