Current Openings and General Internship Information SENIOR NUTRITION POLICY ANALYST The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) seeks a highly motivated individual to carry out research, analysis, writing, and policy advocacy on strategies for obesity prevention, healthy eating and improved nutrition quality for low-income people and communities, especially as related to publicly-funded nutrition programs. This position affords a wide range of opportunities for a talented researcher, analyst and advocate. The position will report to the Director of Nutrition Policy and Early Childhood Programs, but his/her work will range across all age groups, not just early childhood. FRAC works to alleviate hunger and improve nutrition for low-income people in the United States, primarily by analyzing the causes and effects of hunger and poor nutrition and ensuring that federal nutrition assistance programs, including food stamps, summer food, school lunch and breakfast, WIC and the child care and after-school food programs effectively serve low-income Americans. FRAC's Campaign to End Childhood Hunger aims to provide children with the nutrition they need to be healthy, to learn, and to grow. Responsibilities: Provide expertise on healthy eating, nutrition quality, community level access to healthy foods, school meal quality, and other matters at the intersection of nutrition access, health and obesity prevention for low-income individuals and families; analyze national, state and local nutrition program and social welfare research and data; develop policy proposals for healthy eating, nutrition access and nutrition improvements in the federal food programs; research and write reports and policy briefs, as well as materials for the website, e-newsletters and other communications for effective dissemination of information to FRAC’s network and the broader public; develop advocacy strategies and provide technical assistance. Qualifications: Advanced degree in relevant area such as nutrition, public policy, sociology or anthropology. Excellent written and communication skills. Three or more years of experience. Expertise in obesity prevention, healthy eating and nutrition quality preferred. Knowledge of the federal nutrition programs and an understanding of hunger and poverty and their impact on communities preferred. Ability to work collaboratively and individually, to stay on task, and to meet deadlines. Commitment to working for social justice. Opening/Closing Dates: The position is open immediately. General Internship Information FRAC offers a variety of internship possibilities throughout the year. The number of internships available at any given time fluctuates. FRAC interns work as volunteers or with the support of third party funding sources, such as work study programs. We will be happy to assist you in getting academic credit for your internship. Interns work directly with policy and development staff and are assigned to specific projects. Our staff considers mentoring an important part of any internship program. Intern tasks have included working with FRAC's state and local grassroots network, engaging in research and information analysis, working with Congressional policymakers, attending Congressional hearings, assisting in the production and release of FRAC's special reports, and assisting with the organization's fundraising and development activities. Students with a strong commitment to public interest and anti-poverty issues are encouraged to apply.
