Register your organization and volunteer opportunities with the Corporation for National and Community Service. President Obama is launching a nationwide service initiative for this summer, which will start on June 22 and culminate on September 11. The initiative is intended to support economic recovery efforts, including projects aimed at renewing communities hit hard by the recession. Click here for a one-pager about the initiative. (pdf) Registering your organization with Serve.gov is a great opportunity to list potential volunteer activities that would promote participation in the federal nutrition programs. Such opportunities can include: conducting outreach for SNAP/Food Stamps or Summer Nutrition Programs; getting involved in pre-screening efforts for SNAP/Food Stamps; helping out at a Summer Food site; staffing help lines; and other creative ways to promote the federal nutrition programs. To ensure that your opportunities are entered in time for the June 22nd launch, we encourage you to submit this information as soon as possible. Take the following steps to register your organization:
The completed spreadsheets will be uploaded to the Serve.gov Web site. Visitors to that Web site will be able to search for volunteer opportunities based on their zip codes. If you have any questions or need technical assistance, please contact:
