School food programs, CACFP, Senior citizens, WIC and other populations and programs will benefit from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's nutrition focus areas.
USDA guidance on the recovery funds and implementation are included in the links below.
Equipment Purchases for School Food Authorities, and Kitchen/Cafeteria Modernization:
Schools have an opportunity to expand the capacity of school meal programs to better meet the needs of low-income students by purchasing equipment that will allow more flexible serving settings (such as hallway kiosks), and improve the quality and safety of the meals provided. Funding will be allocated through a competitive Request for Proposals from the state agency that administers the National School Lunch Program. Education recovery funds can be used for improving school cafeterias and kitchens, which would facilitate a more pleasant eating environment, healthier food production, and adherence to green building code standards in a high use area.
